[PRE-ORDER] Breaking Open print
This is to PRE-ORDER a 16x12in giclee print of the 2026 painting “Breaking Open.”
I don’t typically do pre-orders for prints, but I am at the crossroads of being so excited to release this painting and wanting to give my amazing printer, Justin Potts, some time to decompress after painting at Imagine Festival.
Pre-order prints will be hand-embellished with one-of-a-kind designs as a thank you! Pre-orders are unlimited in quantity and will only be available until the prints are ready/in stock.
A limited quantity of 25 prints will be available after the pre-order.
About the art:
The process:
This painting started as a sketch in 2018, depicting a broken figure made of the crystal fluorite over a sunrise/sunset water. It stayed hidden in my sketchbook for several years, until 2024 when I rediscovered it and drew it on a canvas.
I got about 95% of the way, when I had to pause and finish my Master's thesis (which included about 2 notebooks worth of art, an animated film, and a 60 page essay). I finally completed it in the Summer of 2026!
After completing the painting, I created a frame of embedded raw fluorite crystals around the perimiter of the piece.
The symbolism:
This painting is a representation of healing through our painful experiences and making meaning out of our suffering, inspired by the Rumi quote “you have to keep breaking your heart until it opens.”
Fluorite represents mental clarity and emotional balance, reinforcing the notion that through our painful experiences we can learn more about ourselves and see ourselves more clearly. Fluorite is a stone of fluidity, representing the growth and change we experience through hardship.
The sunset (or sunrise!) represents the transition from one phase to another, through these experiences. We become different people throughout our lives, with different phases and seasons.
The water represents the depths of our emotional landscape, and how “breaking open” experiences help us go deeper into our own emotional wells.
